Oh I know. My first horticulture professor taught us the evils of monoculture early on in classes. But, since there are SO many golf courses in Beaufort county (Hilton Head Island is in Beaufort) at least it's a way to get some kids interested in the "green industry."

Oh geez, another golf course. Sorry, but I think between Bob Hope and Arnold Palmer, if they had their way, every available space would be golf course. a horrible way to "manage turf".

I don't know about the elementary schools in Beaufort, but one of the high schools has a turf management program and much of their grounds is a golf course, which I think is neat.
Caroline's elementary school has a beautiful courtyard here that is planted with native flowers, grasses, etc, done by the students. It's gorgeous. It used to be just concrete apparently.

Ms. Fatma's school has a large garden for the kids. The school has also recruited the local garden club to provide tutoring in planting and growing. The kids have really done an amazing job with it, even assembled a drip system to irrigate it.

A few elementary schools here still do a little bit of gardening. The kids love it, it just depends on if they have a teacher to carry it on.
