We lost our last 2 dogs to the poisoned pet food a few years back. We’ll
not be getting another dog, even though I really miss having them in our lives.
It just got to be too much for me to get the dogs into the car to get them to
the vet during their last illnesses. Having said that, pets are the only
thing that gets me out of bed and moving some days when I’m in a lot of
pain.
Are there no pet sitters in your area? We had a great one for a number of
years. She’d come in 3 times/day, bring in the mail, turn lights on and off,
watered the plants (not to well, but the dogs liked her) and took care of the
chickens, too. She cared for our pets for years and years until she and her
husband split and she had to take a job that provided health care and more
money. She pet sat a couple of times after that but couldn’t get out at Noon and
the dogs needed that extra mid-day walk.

Subject: Re: [CHAT] For the cat people Am down to one cat now. When he finally crosses
the bridge, I think we will go pet - free. It is getting harder to find friends
willing to come in to feed and scoop litter when we travel, and cats are so much
more comfortable in their familiar surroundings.
