Re: OT/Red stuff
Glad you are feeling better! That's the most important part!

Hmmm I might have to try that with diet ginger ale as I like the lime OK.
Theresa, I can't have anything with sugar at the moment, but yes, I'll
eventually be able to eat fruit. I decided to "deal with it" and do
the two week induction phase of the South Beach diet where you have
nothing but greens and protein for two weeks to help rid yourself of
the mass cravings for processed sugar. It's actually not so bad. Lot's
of lean meat, cheese (which I have to be careful with as I have milk
allergies on top of diabetes) any leafy green thing I want as well as
mushrooms, onions, nuts, etc. I'm actually managing to not go hungry,
I feel better, and I'm starting to lose weight. YAY!

My favorite jello dessert is lime jello with ginger ale used instead
of the water -- keeps just a little fizziness -- and with pear halves
for the fruit.

Jello salads were a staple of any family or social gathering in my
youth. Red orange or black cherry with fruit or berries, lime or
lemon with shredded carrots, celery & pineapple. The really fancy
ones included nuts or cottage cheese. Whiipd cream & cream cheese
showed up a little later. Some I like, some I avoid. Not fond of
sugar free gelatin at all.

If it's so evil, why are you eating it?
We often had jello as kids, rather liked it, but it was nearly
always plain, no stuff in it - wait no, strawberry jello with
bananas in it, yummy. My aunt made the three tiered jello dessert
of jello, then whipped cream and pineapple, topped by another layer
of jello - which was tricky to try to keep the top layer from
sliding into the cream cheese before it set. I was never
particularly fond of it, I liked plain jello.
Haven't had it for many years but just the past few months I've
been eating the sugar-free black cherry. I dislike the aspartame
taste, but the black cherry part tastes good, so I just sort of
ignore the fake sugar part of it.

OK, so many of us don't eat read meat, or at least not much. How
about red
jello? I just tried my first sugar free, cherry jello. Can I get
an EEW?
I had lime last night, which wasn't bad, but definitely not a fan
of the
cherry. Keep in mind, I haven't eaten jello since I was child. For
me,
thoughts of jello usually bring up one of the most heinous dished
my family
used to make for holidays. "Congealed Salad" Now why on earth
would you EVER
refer to a food as congealed anything? Conjures up all sorts of
visions of
nasty stuff that congeals like blood and fat. My mother used to
take red
jello, mix it with cool whip (I think) fill it with fruit and
nuts, dump it
all into a bundt pan, then dump it out on a plate when it was cold
and call it
congealed salad. Yuck! Speak of the devil. She just called. My
bad, it wasn't
cool whip. One recipe had cream cheese and orange jello and
pineapple. The
other had cream cheese, bananas, nuts, and orange jello. So, there
ya go.
That's my story for the night. Has absolutely nothing to do with
plants. I
just felt the need to rant about the evils of jello.
