Hi Zem, I too am not real good at digging up the stuff to keep over the winter. Seem to get the cannas in, but am almost famous as a glad killer. Speaking of glad, I'm glad your peonies are doing well. A friend of my sister down in KS wants some this fall, as well as the secretary at the local extension office her in NE. Good thing that they are ready to be thinned out a little. My little sister in Michigan got about 20 last fall to line her new driveway with. She sent a picture and they look quite nice. I'm going to see her in a few weeks, so I'll be able to see for myself. Those pe;onies are really getting around, of course Jesse has some in OK too. If you would want to send some callas in the spring that would be just great. Thanks, Rich

Hi Tricia and Zem, I live in Northern Z-5, almost Z-4 so I'm guessing that calla lilies are not hardy here. If I was to grow some, do you dig the bulbs in the fall and replant in the spring, kinda like I do with cannas, or do they need to be potted all winter or what??? I grew a couple of callas a few years ago, but left them in the ground over the winter and they went away. So if you could tell me hwo to keep them alive, and wanted to get rid of some bulbs, I'd be an eager taker. Rich in Z-5

Up until now I've just been moving around the "clumps" of reseeded babies I am getting every year. I really must divide my most mature plants this year, and I'm going to use your method when I get there.

I need to thin out my calla lilies. Any recomendations on how to do this? They are in a bed that has a brick retaining wall around it and is inside the patio. I am guessing just dig up and split then put them right back in with the leaves attached. They are falling over and didn't bloom well this year.
