I don't think those stereotypes have anything to do with the Bible Belt.
Areas of secularists are just as bad as anywhere else. Sometimes I think it
is a lack of education and opportunities for education. I can tell you that
I got pretty tired of the "glass ceiling" at a number of places where I
worked, so it's not just something that happens at home, either.
While I rejected the "his place"/"her place" penchant, my daughters are not
in full agreement. Both can be very self sufficient, but the older one is
very content letting her husband do "men's work" while the younger is a
"team" player with her significant other. (She and her boy friend have done
some amazing remodeling of his home. The new bath is all done in stone with
mosaic areas, the faux paint techniques they used in the rest of the house
are "inspired." And daughter Rayna has provided most of the art for the
walls with her photographs and her charcoal sketches.)

All this "men's work/women's work" stuff is gibberish to me. I was born
in the early 30s [very early, Hoover was president] when that sort of
nonsense was accepted by most people. But times change and continue to
change. Women have been more-or-less liberated from such stupid
stereotypes. Or so I thought. But maybe not in the bible belt. Hello?
