Poor George! Have you considered getting one of those cat beds that warms up to 102 when he's in it? I bet he'd love that. Or consider the Pet Wellness bed:

they also have a whole section on arthritis care:

I also remember my vet prescribing alflafa for my dog's arthritis.

It was good. Nice to see family, but my mom's Alzheimers is worse and worse. : ( Weather was gorgeous there. We bought a pecan tree and I helped my mom plant it in her yard. She was so excited! (I get my gardening addiction from her!) Today I actually had a day off! I cleaned up all of the front gardens. My hands, wrists, legs etc are SORE! Been way to long since I've been outside. I didn't get anything planted- still have plants and bulbs that need to get in the ground. Maybe Sunday- as tomorrow it's supposed to rain. The stucco guys got all of the weather-proof paper and lathing on the house today. So- if it manages not to rain for part of next week, that can get started. Yeah! I've been doing cat care all week. I took my grey (George) back to the vet again Monday, as he's licked even more fur off of his belly and legs. They still thought it was an allergy, but I asked them to do whatever they needed to, to rule out other possibility. So, bloodwork (normal), and Xray. Turns out he has severe arthritis, with several calcified discs in his back, closest to his tail. SO, poor thing has been in pain, and in particular hasn't be going #2 regularly- likely because it really hurts his back to. So, now I'm giving him lactulose (basically the cat equivalent to miralax) to make things "easier" for him. Also, he's getting cat version of glucosamine/chondrotin, and also an NSAID (Metalax) that is made for dogs, but they use it for cats too. He seems to be feeling more comfortable, but still definitely tender if he gets too playful (at least he is playing some again!) So, we're working on this with him. He hates the meds (lactulose and Metacam are both liquids- so syringe makes if fairly easy to administer). The gluc/chond is a capsule that I open and sprinkle over a small amount of canned cat food (which he loves!). I'm also leaving the heat on higher, as he clearly is less comfortable when it is chillier in the house (this was part of how I figured out that something was definitely wrong and it wasn't an allergy. Well, that and the fact that he never seemed itchy). So- that's my cat saga. Theresa Pam Evans wrote:how was your trip to Texas? Of course, at the beginning of this week, we got the last window put into the house, and today was gorgeous out and they got 2/3 of the house weather-proofed and lathed in anticipation of the stucco. They are finishing the lathe work tomorrow, but it is supposed to rain Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully the forecast for sun on Monday will hold and the first layer of stucco can get put on! My garden is just a mess right now- needs fall cleanup badly. I have managed to kill off nearly all of the grass in the back yard though- and with only one application of round-up. I want back an resprayed the few remaining greenish spots at the beginning of this week, so hopefully that will finish it off. After the house is all done, then resodding the back yard in next on the big to-do list. Theresa Judy Browning wrote:Has been windy rain & warm here too. 65F, thanks to the "pineapple express". Don't you love the names they give these weather systems? Most of my porch pots froze in the cold snap 2 weeks ago. Looks like a couple of the geraniums might live. We voted about 10 am, but the calls keep coming. Will look forward to pics of the orchid when things calm down. ----- Original Message ----- From: "james singer" <islandjim1@verizon.net> To: "Garden Chat" <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Tuesday, November 07, 2006 8:44 AM Subject: [CHAT] Windy, rainyIt's a windy, rainy day--gloomy, but not cold [74 degrees]. Began picking "kirmizi aci" peppers yesterday, so I'm drying them today. Picked 11 yesterday, mostly from the inside of the plant, where they don't show. I want to let those on the outside stay put until most are ripe and I can take a picture of it to send to the young lady who sent the seeds. Looks like this plant will produce two to three dozen peppers this season. That's a lot of hot! Got another orchid blooming, but it's bobbing around in the wind too much to photograph.
