You didn't hear what I said when I discovered all of this after getting my 95 year old Dad onto a plane this fall and found just after his plane left that I had his DL in my wallet and he had mine.
Thank God for Fed-Ex, or he might still be in Newark (NJ- the armpit of the nation).

Yeah. That's one of the curses of the Patriot Act. And a birth certificate is, of course, one of the silliest IDs invented; it is tied to the person because the person says it is, not because it has a photo, thumb print, or DNA sample. But the seriously paranoid clutch their symbols. Oops, ranting again. I've been paying my bills that way for at least 10 years. But it has some draw backs. When I went to register my truck and get a new driver's license in Oregon I had to scramble to find two paper checks because DMV doesn't honor plastic. On Nov 18, 2009, at 2:13 PM, Daryl wrote:Actually, according to our consumer guru, Clark Howard, you're more likely to become a victim of identity theft (or bank fraud or credit card theft) by using a paper check or at a local restaurant/ establishment/whatever that uses the old-fashioned credit-card machine.I've been buying on-line for at least 10 years. d ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pam Evans" <gardenqueen@gmail.com > To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Wednesday, November 18, 2009 5:07 PM Subject: Re: [CHAT] ID theftoh dear. and that's why I don't do on line banking - too hackable (is thata word?)
