Suzanne, when Glyphosate was first brought to market it was, of course, under 
patent.  When other manufacturers and formulators began to use it they could 
not use the trademarked name.  So they used the generic name, Glyphosate.  
I'm not sure who brought the chemical to market, maybe Ortho or Monsanto, but 
the trademarked name was Roundup.  The trademarked name is now used for 
formulations which have adjuvants that enhance the effectiveness of the 
principal active ingredient.

I began reading labels in high school, perhaps because I'm more attracted by 
the alphabet than average.  My  sister's distant associate did us all a favor 
when he got food processors to put content labels on things.  However, many 
products are covered by a Federal Standard Of Identity, peanut butter is one, 
ice cream is another.  A search through USDA sites would probably uncover the 
products that have standards of identity and breakdowns of each standard.
