I have to confess that I can relate a bit to your miffed owner, Linda. Sometimes it is not possible to get the latest plant. Sometimes a nursery might decide to offer something a bit different but in the same line. Sometimes there may be very similar plants, if not the same, being offered under their "regular " name sans proprietary label.
Stepables is a wonderful example of proper plant selection for that line and marketing. But there are other plants about that fill a similar if not the same function.
A quick owner might have responded that they are aware of Stepables, give them the praise due and slip in a few words about their plants. You might have given them a pass for that particular article, you might have added a paragraph talking about alternatives;but, you certainly would have gone back to them in a good frame of mind. Which would have turned into a nice column or feature about their operation.
Most owners are savvy enough about PR ( after paying a lot of money for advertising) that would never snap back that. Then again, we all have our bad days.
And thanks to Duane for starting another interesting thread,
Dan
