Re: Brooding...

Title: Re: [GWL] Brooding
Sandie,

I have often found that an institution's response to an inquiry is closely correlated with their response to the visitor/shopper. In addition to calling or emailing, I try to cruise all of the places I write about to check out the merchandise and get a bit of the flavor. I will not send my readers or clients to those that are rude, inconsiderate or neglectful. My readers and clients trust me and I will not abuse that trust.

I've worked the high seasons in garden centers and I understand that sometimes it's a matter of being just plain worn out - when knees and back and brain are crying for rest - but there's no excuse to neglect a customer.

Regarding Duane's original post, I, too, have found that information from Scots is now sadly lacking. Responses to emails often have no little relation to the original question (are they using canned emails?), and trying to get a label or MSDS is frustrating and often hopelessly late for a column. Again, my inclination is that if a company treats me poorly, it's likely to treat my reader poorly also. It may not be as big a problem with hard goods as it is for plants, but it still leaves a bad taste.

How can PR responses (or lack of) NOT influence the article you
are writing? I write garden and travel pieces. The quality of
the PR response changes the article, no matter how hard you try
to be fair.
