Re: Cedar & Cocoa Bean Mulches
I can't respond generally to the notion that "chocolate kills dogs" but I
can share a story about our companion Spectre.
In his middle years, he got into the Christmas goodies, specifically mine,
and scarfed down a pound of chocolate covered coffee beans. He was titch
more energetic than usual but that was the only noticeable change us anxious
people noticed.
The next year it was a pound of Hershey's kisses wrapped up in red and green
foil. The outcome, so to speak, was bits of coloured tinsel scattered
throughout the yard as the snow melted away and exposed our "gifts."
Am I saying we should feed our dogs chocolate? Nope. But Spectre seemed to
do okay.
Cocoa mulch smells nice but it decomposes very quickly.
Folks here tend to prefer coloured cedar- red or black.
If they're picking out a natural coloured product it is usually shredded
pine bark.
The new mulch that is supposed to be introduced soon is chopped up
industrial waste lumber with spray paint.
