I've never used the Can but have had lots of experiments with bins of 
worms. As another and more experienced poster noted -  if you overwater or 
provide too much water through your garbage, you'll get the flies.  My 
solution to this is decidedly simple and worked well for me.  Add lots of 
shredded newspaper to soak up the excess moisture. The flies disappear 
shortly without having to use any sprays.  I also note that worms prefer 
shredded corrugated cardboard to almost any other source of food. *junk 
food for worms*  Don't know whether it was the glue or what but they'd go 
nuts when the cardboard hit town.

Having lost all my worm farms when my greenhouse burned down, this 
conversation has encouraged me to restart one in my office.  I used to feed 
them all my winter envelopes and paper.  The only thing left in the spring 
cleanout would be the plastic "windows" from the envelopes. :-)   Now, to 
find somebody local with a few worms to share.
