SunPatiens

There was a thread earlier this year about whether the new impatiens,
SunPatiens, was really good for full sun and high heat conditions. So last May I
got my wallet out and went to Home Depot and picked up a plant, in a six inch
pot, around six bucks, and planted it in full sun in a flower bed.

Most of us in inland Southern California take promotional material that
suggests a new plant will be impervious to our "full sun" and high heat
conditions with a grain of doubt, but I thought it worthwhile to check this one out.

Planted in May, the plant looked good for a few weeks, then began to
decline. It tried to come back in late June, put out some new growth, but then
declined rapidly as daytime temps hit the high 90s and 100s in July and by late
July was gone.

It probably would do better in coastal areas, maybe in some mid-western
areas and possibly the south, but it's definitely not a full sun impatiens in
this area.
