Re: Nikons and Canons in the closet

Ellen,

I agonized over that one for years, before deciding to leave the heavy equipment at home. I say take the small camera. If your little Canon is like mine, you'll have a lot more fun, and probably take a lot more photos because it's easy and in your pocket. The new small cameras don't lose much, if anything in an active environment like a hike, and they gain much.

Or take both, since 2 cameras are good insurance. I'll be very surprised if the big one comes out of the backpack very often, though.

This brings up a dilemma I'm currently agonizing over. I'm going to Crete at the end of September for 2 weeks of hiking, swimming, and eating. Do I bring the big Canon or the little? The purpose of the trip is not photography but surely there will be beauty along the way. Which wins out: easier backpacking or truly capturing a once in a lifetime trip? I go back and forth, depending on the temperature. Can anyone convince me not to be lazy?
