Two varieties of crotons that were developed in Italy for low light are C.
petra, and C. norma. These are the ones offered for sale in most retail
outlets and by far the best for low light conditions. They will not take
full sun in south Florida without having yellow new growth all the time.
There has been a renewed interest in Crotons lately and a lot of the
"dooryard"
varieties are starting to show up at retailers, at least in Florida.

Just one last note on crotons. No one I read (and I still don't seem to get
every post) mentioned humidity. In growing crotons in gh, and having them in
a retail/home environment, its high requirements for humidity and light seem
to be the limiting factors. I agree with others about no frost, etc. I once
gave a reader the advice to treat the croton like a boston fern - put it in
the bathroom if you must grow it indoors over winter - it worked, but then
she had a skylight in the bath, so light wasn't a problem.
