RE: [GWL]: Taking photos

How do folks who shoot digital deal with the issue of
not having the proper display equipment?  Renting an LCD projector is
about $300/day -- far more than most people are willing to swallow.
Doing digital to slide dupes is about $4/slide, which adds up when
you are preparing for a 45 or 60 minute talk.

I've been thinking about this one too. It's another reason all of my
originals are slides. I'm interested in moving the presentation versions to
digital for the flexibility, using the originals for publication purposes.
The cost of LCD projectors is coming down. It's still not to the point where
I can justify buying one (booking more talks/classes would tip the balance
though), but getting closer. You should easily be able to find one for under
$3000, perhaps even less. At $300 a day for rental, well.... A cheaper
alternative is to run a cable from your laptop to the S-Video port on a
television set. For many groups a reasonably sized TV can function as your
image presenter. And nearly every venue has one on a cart--or at least
available. With a class-room sized audience (30 or so?) there is little need
for anything bigger.
