Re: Press Release Punctuation


I too had to unlearn the two-space-post-period habit. I try to make my columns as close to plug-&-play as possible, i.e., spell-checked, fact-checked, pruned to precise length; in short, to give my editors no extra work. Editors are busy people. And if you make them mess with punctuation, sometimes they figure, as long as I'm under the hood anyway, why not tweak this graf a little? No good can come of that.

We all learned two spaces when we learned to type on typewriters.That changed 
with computers. Work in publishing, such as a newspaper or magazine, and you 
quickly learn to use only one space.
This is why there is a Find and Replace function for editors to use. Would be 
nice if writers would use it before turning in copy, especially once they know 
that only one is needed.
