Re: Website software

What can I say? It's a minefield! I've stepped through it and certainly have
a few scars to show.

The "easy" website-making software tends to have very limited flexibility &
capability, while those temptingly cheap templates you find all over the web
require a professional developer to customise them to meet your needs.

I've done OK using Microsoft Expression Web coupled with an (X)HTML
instruction manual to fill in the gaps when it doesn't do what I want it to.
Understanding (X)HTML is really useful and will save you hours of
frustration if you opt for a site or for Enewsletters built in that
language.

But I'm now working on a much more advanced project that involves database
search of user generated profiles. To do that properly requires expertise
that's difficult to find "in a bottle". Something I can definitely advise
against is letting an Indian development company take the strain. You'll
spend more time telling them to correct their mistakes than you ever did
briefing them in the first place!
