Web hosting: how much is too much?
This is my first post to the Garden Writers mailing list so please forgive
me if there's something I should've done but didn't do (delete all text
below my message?).
I have a basic one page Web site <http://www.thewritegardener.com/> with
email included hosted by Register.com. I'm wanting to include a blog on my
Web site, but my basic plan only allows one or the other, not both. Also,
with my basic plan, I get only one page. It's the email that I get more use
from because it's <tc@thewritegardener.com> and this reflects my career as a
garden writer. I use my Web site for posting recent articles (I only post
one article every week or so) because the newspaper I write for does not
post my weekly column on their Web site, they use past articles, and until
recently still had one posted from August of last year! I don't like the
editing tool Register.com uses, or the amount it would cost if I were to
upgrade for more space.
My blog <http://thewritegardener.blogspot.com/>, on the other hand, is
completely free through Blogger.com and I update it regularly with my own
photography and relevant gardening articles and articles on other topics as
well. I've just begun using Adsense and hope to generate a dollar or two of
income. I have a very basic understanding of HTML, but don't write code for
templates. I've been using the same template on my blog for some time and
right now I'm in the process of switching to a new one (the transition is a
scary one).
Since I'm on a very limited income, and still relatively new (less than ten
years) in the industry, I was wondering if someone with more experience
might be able to tell me what I should expect to pay for Web hosting? Right
now, I'm paying Register.com less than $100/year for a one page site, and
100MB of email.
One more thing, I am very determined to keep "thewritegardener" as my very
own domain name. I just now Googled "The Write Gardener" and my blog was at
the top of the return list, this is a good thing. But I'm wondering why my
Web site didn't show up. Regardless, I look forward to reading more of
what's offered here on the Garden Writers discussion list, and hope to add
helpful information to others as well.
