[GWL]: speakers fees

They paid a couple of hundred for me to fly out from Nova Scotia. No 
offer to assist with meals or lodging, but we have relatives there.
First they wanted to know if I already planned to attend the show
(always best to be vague at that point). I wasn't happy with what 
they offered, as standard airfare alone is around $600. I managed to 
get an extra hundred by offering to do two workshops on wreaths
while I was there. Good thing, as the workshops were standing room 
only and my primary presentation had a dissapointingly low turnout.

I know they paid two other speakers from the Atlantic provinces in 
later years as well, but it probably wasn't enough considering the 
airfare.

I go because I love the show, receive assistance from the publishing
company I work for and meet prospective advertisers...although
after three days of it, I'm pretty well Canada Bloomed out. I now
offer a popular slide presentation on the event for garden clubs.
They pay my traveling expenses, meals, and offer to put me up with a
member overnight if necessary. I've met many fantastic gardeners 
this way and expanded my networking. This is a wonderful opportunity to
travel with many of your expenses covered.

If anyone does make it to Toronto for Canada Blooms this year between 
March 13-17, I highly recommend a sidetrip to Allan Gardens. I always 
make it a point to visit this charming conservatory.
Approximately 100,000 people attend Canada Blooms each year.
