Re: helping landscapers become plant people

Hi CL,

I once vented my spleen regarding poor landscaping practices
http://loisdevries.blogspot.com/2008/05/landscapes-made-of-ticky-tacky.ht
ml . I felt better, but I doubt that it effected any positive change. I
can say that Bowman's Hill Wildflower Farm's annual Land Ethics Symposium
is attended by hundreds of landscape architects and designers from all
over the east coast who care deeply about the environment, so the
audience is out there. The symposium focuses on "Creative Approaches for
Ecological Landscaping" and this year deals with such things as
sustainable landscaping, green roof systems, restoration of native
vegetation, etc.

You could ask for a list of their current and previous speakers (this is
their 10th year) as a pool of resources from which to draw -- or do it
yourself. This is a market that is really growing :-) in our area and you
may want to convince the sponsors that they are missing the boat by
ignoring it. Are they focusing too much on selling product?

Regards,
Lois
