Re: spanish lavender

Hello Kate,

Nan is a WOW on plants................hello Nan. The only thing I might
add is that the Spanish flavors are the very first to bloom. Living in
California, gosh its been a lovely sunny day today! Mine in the garden are
now starting to set their buds. Dare I suggest that the possibility that
the plants were passed their blooming season when you received them? If
your still in the mind to try Lavender again, might suggest
Provence................a blooming fool. Thank you for a wonderful meeting
in your city last year.

Best regards,

Nicholas

Have you tried Lavender Lady which blooms from seed the first yr? Most
English lavenders will bloom early from cuttings. Spanish are more tender
and
southerly but it is not difficult to get though. As a source for
containers
maybe try Richters in Canada - they do bulk plugs of most of the common
herbs.

Last year, I had Spanish lavender specially grown for the 25 containers I

plant at Indianapolis City Market, but it never bloomed. The grower
brought
in plugs from Washington State (who knew it would be so hard to find this

plant?)...which we won't do again. But I wonder if anyone can suggest why
the lavender did not bloom. I need an 'annual' good flowering
lavender...the
perennial types might work and I'm considering them. For the summer, I
try
to use edible plants in keeping with the food theme of the market.

Thank you.
