Re: India

Dear John and other colleagues,

In my opinion (and also according to many others in the developing
countries), the real problem lies in the UNREASONABLY HIGH PRICE of the
currencies like dollar, British pound and Euro etc. I am not an economist
but fail to understand how this price is fixed.

I keep visiting UK. One British pound costs 90 Indian rupees or 180
Srilankan rupees. And it does not get you even a cup of tea there. Where
is in 90 Indian rupees you can have two good meals in cheap (but good)
restaurant in India.

In September last, I had to spend 13 hours at Milan airport in Italy to get
my connecting flight to Sau Paulo. During this time I spent a hundred
rupees only on drinking water (a 500 ml bottle for 1.5 Euro or 75 rupees)
where as India you get a one liter bottle of the most reputed brand for 15
rupees for 15 rupees even at the airport.

I do not think this situation is NOT going to stay in the world for ever.
As a commoner I feel that the REAL value of currency lies in what it can
buy.

Please DO NOT think that I am some COMMUNIST. These are my observations
based upon my personal experiences. In fact, currency etc. is not my
subject but what I feel that there must be some UNDERSTANDABLE LOGIC or
RATIONALE behind such things.
