Re: Article length


I agree wholeheartedly with the couple of posters to this thread who said it takes more discipline to write fewer words; and with the one who said it's dangerous to cause editors more work. They're busy folks. 
And I agree with whoever said the shorter column is often better, because the writer is forced to work harder to make all his/her points in less space. Fortunately, that little exercise in discipline is kinda fun. 
I'm reminded of the apocryphal story of Mark Twain, who told someone that it would take him two weeks to prepare a one-hour lecture, a week for a two-hour lecture, and if he could ramble on for three hours, "I'm ready right now."
