Several suggestions - first, be sure your current Nikor lenses are compatible. Most older lenses are not.
The Nikon D70 seems to be a good camera, but it is not a "high end" camera. It's higher than a Camedia and very capable, but it will require excellent photography technique and excellent Photoshop skills to produce truly professional results.
That brings up my next suggestion. Many folks jumping into digital photography do not realize that with digital they have become their own processing lab. So if you are relatively new to the full version of Photoshop (the 800 pound gorilla of photo editing) you may wish to invest in some training available at most colleges. Photoshop Elements at $99 is very capable, but if you are investing in your new professional business, go for professional software too.
Plan on getting a 1 gig card for your camera and a Firewire card reader. Learn to shoot in RAW mode and edit your photos before the file is saved. Results are amazing (you need the proprietary software from your camera maker or Photoshop CS.) Anyone interested in learning more about RAW mode, please email me offlist.
Lastly, for digital camera comparisons and review information, click on www.dpreview.com -- the best review site on the web. It helped me decide between a Nikon D100 and the Canon EOS 10D ( I bought the 10D and just clicked over 10,000 exposures). I love it thoroughly. I have my eye on the Canon EOS-1D Mark II, truly a professional camera available soon for $4500. For anyone considering a digital SLR, I highly recommend Canon. They seem to be about a year ahead of Nikon. The 'new' Nikon D70 is similar in specs to the Canon EOS D10 which came out in May 2003.
And for the record, I'm a confirmed MAC user with an eMac now and saving for a G5. OS10.3 Panther with iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie and iDVD is awesome. And the new Adobe Creative Suite is also amazing. Nothing crashes & everything works together. I can work without worrying about saving every 2 minutes or whether or not my peripherals will work. I love it!
I hope this has been helpful -- and best wishes as you grow your business!
