Re: Decline in edible gardening

The problem with elementary school gardens is that school gets out
for summer vacation so early in the season and most schools don't
have the ability to keep the garden going thru the summer so the kids
could pick up the fall season. I've always thought the Master
Gardeners would be a good resource for maintaining the school's
garden during the summer.

Wouldn't it be neat if all schools, as part of their curriculum, had a
vegetable garden?
Imagine what those young folks would learn.
Imagine how the teachers can tie in just about every subject from the
obvious botany and biology, ecosystems, sustainability, math,
history, etc.
etc. Lots of room for social sciences in there as well.
And how much would a teaching resource like cost the school board? Dirt
cheap, right.
