Re: LCD Projectors

I couldn't agree with Tom more. I absolutely hate PowerPoint garden
programs w/ text on the screen. I also may have a handout, I'm trying
to listen to the speaker while figuring out if I need to make notes
from the info on the screen. It's information overload. And, I still
go back to my main complaint about PowerPoints for plants and that
is, most of the time, the colors are very washed out. Also, I think
PowerPoints are a lot more susceptible to ambient light than slides.

But, like the rest of you, I'm moving to PowerPoints because of how
easy they are to assemble from digital images. I'm now having all of
my film put on a CD in high resolution when getting processed. (I'm
getting close to even buying a digital camera, especially when I read
that the SLRs should be down to about one-third of what they are now
by the end of the year.) However, I do not put any text on the screen
in PowerPoints, except maybe the plant name, which also is on the
slide list or handout that I've provided the audience. I always leave
some room on the handout for people to take notes and I try to make
sure there's enough (dim) light for them to do so.

And, like Tom, I try to take a sampling of the plants I'm talking
about, such as stems, flowers or foliage. Sometimes I go to a
friendly garden center and borrow plants. I may not have samples of
each plants...more of a "sampler." Sometimes, people buy the plants,
which encourages the garden center to continue lending me the plants.
