Google Drive
A quick note that might save some of you some frustration. I downloaded
the Google Drive app for my desktop and started using it to upload files.
Works like a charm. But I don't want 100 gigs of images sitting on my
desktop so I started deleting them out of the app (thinking it was a simple
uploader) Wrong! It's a mirror of the drive. Here I am adding files like
crazy, watching them get checked and then deleting them from the laptop -
only to find out that Google Drive then trashed them as well.
I have now deleted the app and direct upload to Drive using the "upload"
button itself. The files now sit quite comfortably by their lonesome and
not connected to my desktop in any way.
Bottom line - if you want a mirror/cloud storage, use the app. If you want
secure backup not connected, then use the uploader in Drive itself.
