Hi Lorraine,
My experience (also 5b) is very similar to yours. Munstead, Hidecote, and a few other lavenders are just starting to show leaves now, but I'm not sure the Provence made it -- some look alive and some do not. But it's pretty ugly. I had just about given up on the Knockouts when they leafed out during the warm weather last week. We may have lost Cinco de Mayo rose; not sure, yet. Be patient with the hydrangea. Those that took a hit here are just starting to leaf out at the base of the plant.
Regards,
Lois

Hi, Duane et al!
Still waiting for final count of losses. Worst winter in over 20 years of gardening in zone 5b. Severe winterburn/winterkill on euonymus 'green and gold' (2 specimens), Ilex 'Blue Princess', many rhodies . Completely lost Rosa 'Julia Child', all lavender 'Grosso' had to be yanked (about 14 plants). They were so severely impacted that no amount of clipping, shearing, shaping could restore them to any acceptable form. Knockout roses look awful --

Did anyone lose plants during this harsh winter that had survived for years in their gardens? It might be useful to assemble a list. Most surprisingly, I lost several 20 year old colonies of sempervivums. Also most of the Euphorbia myrsinites, some sedums, oriental poppy, one buddlea (maybe).
