Re: [GWL]: Are gardeners cheap?
Some gardeners are cheap. Some are downright extravagant. Some hire
landscapers; some sharpen a thumbnail and stroll through public gardens with
an open purse. Gardeners who appreciate new introductions accept that they
tend to be somewhat more expensive than familiar varieties for the first year
or two.
It's like any other area: Do you want to spend money, or do you want to spend
time? If you want to read the latest best-seller, do you buy it in
hardback or wait for the paperback? If you want immediate impact in your
landscape, a "finished" look instantly, prepare to shell out a lot of money.
If you're more patient, you can start with smaller plants, do your own
dividing, etc. and eventually arrive at the same look. To my mind (and
budget) the latter path is more satisfying.
