Re: Sweet Potato Vines
Actually, if you can carry them over for several years, the tubers
get to be pretty hefty. First year plants make (generally and
depending on where you garden) fingerling size or thumb size tubers,
if any. I have a 'Blackie' that's about the size of a small grocery
store yam....it's at least 4 years old. Something I find interesting
is that 'Blackie', with it's dark foliage makes a very light, almost
white-skinned tuber while 'Margarita', with its chartreuse foliage
makes a red-skinned tuber...you'd think it would be the other way
around given their foliage.
