So it's okay to peel off that crinkly old skin on orchids? I have some
that have a few layers that are really unattractive, but I've been afraid
to remove it. I also went through almost the same thing you did--a
few months ago I found my orchids totally infested with little jumping
bugs (springtails I've been told), and though some people say they
don't do any harm I just don't like the idea of little creatures jumping
around in my orchids. So I scrubbed out all the pots, gently cleaned
the plants, nuked the bark (the bugs came in the bag with it), cooled
it off, and repotted the orchids. Not a single springtail since. What
a pain. I guess it must have been even worse for you!
