[Rose-list] will citrus lower pH?

Last fall I mixed a small amount of stove ashes into one of my rose
beds' dirt.  Now it has an akaline pH reading. It is the only bed that's
akaline and also the only bed I added ashes to;  so I am thinking that
stove ashes are responsible for the higher pH test reading.  My question
is this:  Has anyone ever tried to add citrus peels or pulps to the dirt
to acidify the pH level?
