Yes, Carleen, I did bite the bullet at last and purchase "Classic Roses" and
"Best Borders" based on Val's glowing review...my credit card's still
steaming.
Another book I can recommend for rugosa fan is Suzanne Verrier's "Rosa
Rugosa",
published in 1991. It's a soft cover of only 89 pages, and I think sold for
around
$30.00 then, and is filled with exquisite photos. The book encapsulates her
favorites
and mentions those that did not do well for her. The history of the species,
geneology and culture is well laid out. She is a consulting rosarian for
White Flower Farm (a mail order house of perennials and shrubs) and lectures
on
old-fashioned roses and owns and operates Forevergreen Farm nursery which
sells
old-fashioned, uncommon and hardy roses locally and by mail-order (all this
info
was and I believe is still current) in North Yarmouth, Maine. I've referred
to it many
times and find it a necessary addition to my gardening library (which keeps
growing like Topsy).
I can't wait to hear about other rose books everyone enjoys...but I'd better
cut up
my credit card first!
Joanie, Z5A
