Re: [SANS] Sansevieria arborescens

I repotted my S. arborescens the other day, as it hadn't been
showing much new growth (and it had been in the same pot for a
long time.) I confess to a fondness for this thing--though I
wouldn't want to fall into a patch of the spiky stuff.

I used to think arborescens was more cold-sensitive than my
other sans., as I had one succumb to temps that the other plants
survived with no damage. Expressing this opinion online, though,
brought replies from people who thought just the opposite--that
it was more cold tolerant than other species. So, who knows.

Do others of you have this one? Has anyone seen it bloom?

I don't recall seeing it in Ed Eby's garden in Hawaii when I
visited years ago. If anyone would have had a plant bloom, it
probably would have been Ed.

By the way, for those who may not know it, Ed and Alva have sold
their place in Waianae and now live outside Sandy, OR. The folks
who bought it (and the place across the road) intend to keep the
succulent garden going--or, so I hear. Ed told them they would
have to harvest sansevieria seed for the CSSA Seed Depot!

(Just in case any of you don't know it, Ed Eby was the source of
most of the sansevierias that are in the commercial trade, having
been a source for Grigsby and Singer's.) Too bad we couldn't have
stopped time where Ed was concerned.
