Re: [SANS] Growing condtions.

Dear Ove;
        We probably have similar growing conditions. All my Sans are in
pots (or baskets) and have to come indoors for the winter. I keep them in a
lighted basement garage that stays about 50-60 degrees in winter. I water
them infrequently.
        I used to bring them out well after the first frosts (June) and
keep them in shade then slowly adjust them to more sun, but we have very
hot sun and high temps (100 plus ) so sometimes I was too fast and they
burned. In fall they went from outdoors right into thew dim winter prison.
Seems like you can never get them back in too early as some are very
sensitive to temps even of 55 F.
        Now I bring them out in June, but keep them under a wooden deck all
summer. This gives them very bright shade and some western sun late in the
day. It is less of a shock-no adjusting for full sun and less of shock
going back indoors.
        I have found a few species that really never want full sun anyway,
but always seem to do better in shade. Now if I could only do better at
repotting, fertilizing and general care, they'd probably be happier, still;
fortunately they seem very forgiving of my well meaning abuse.
        Incidentally in summer heat -even in shade they like quite a bit of
water in general.

        Does that sound familiar?

                Best            Jim W.
