Re: Allow further discussion of related topics for sqfting?

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I heartily agree that my sq ft gardening extends to all areas of my yard and I do appreciate all the info that many have shared on subjects that intertwine ... such as bees, poison ivy, clematis, etc.   ... Nickie

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Dear Friends,

Do others believe as I do that our aesthetic-related discussions occurring here about "sqfting" cannot be avoided from  as easily as some seem to do? Do you wish that we could benefit from ongoing discussions on some topics which complement sqfting while nevertheless not directly discussing the mechanics of gardening?

I know I could benefit from others' opinions of form, function, design, and experience. I suggest to you that plants which may not be planted directly in our sqft beds but which affect our whole gardening experience deserve to be discussed.

Do our raised beds exist alone without affecting the appearance and beauty of our yards and lives? Why can we not enjoy a greater latitude while discussing these important factors in our yards and especially how they relate directly to our whole experience as we enjoy and work in our gardens?

As I think of each step in building my own square foot garden I cannot separate the annual and perennial flowers which will provide such beauty. For example my clematis will be behind the corn (if it works out). I am trying to work out a comprehensive garden view where all the elements cannot be ignored without harming the whole point of the exercise in the art of square foot gardening.

I ask you to share your view here either for or against greater latitude so we may discuss more than just how we build the physical garden but how we can build sqft gardening into an experience for all to enjoy. Feel free to say what you think. You will not hurt my feelings.

Have a great day,
bill missen.
