I can understand about that too!  My yard is clay and sand.  When you water
it, the water runs off or puddles and takes forever to drain off.  The
bermuda grass, picker weeds and other assorted weeds LOVE  the yard, though
other plants hate it.

Where ever I've wanted to plant, I've had to dig out the "bad" dirt and put
in "good" dirt so anything but weeds can grow.  Though now I'm constantly on
weed patrol...
