Cantaloupe

I plan to grow cantaloupe in my SQFT garden this year.

Question:

Can I grow such a heavy fruit vertically? On tomato cages perhaps?

I've heard they are too heavy but to keep the fruit fresh, support it
on upside down flower pots. Of course, that does not help space wise.
