Baking soda like diatomaceous earth?--Reply

I'm no expert but I believe that baking soda works only on fungal diseases
like black spot. For the soft bodied insects, to work like diatomaceous
earth ,you need something to scratch them as they crawl across.

I don't use diatomaceous earth because I don't want extra stuff going down
my lungs. I get enough. I have been saving egg shells. I am going to place
them in the refrig for several hours and then crush them. After that will
place crushed eggshells in areas I know to be high trafficked by slugs and
snails in my garden. I have never done it before, but the principle should
be the same.
