Re: square foot software

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

IMO, the most salient feature for sqft software to have in an automated
feature that would let you type in what you want to grow and get out the
appropriate number of plants per square. This is easy! But it does require
some research and the willingness to consider thousands of possible plant
species.

Secondarily, but also very appealing, is Harry's idea that the SW should
incorporate sequential species suggestions. These would need to be
clustered by AHS heat zones, however, not USDA cold-hardiness zones because
most of what we're interested in is annuals, not perennials. The USDA zone
system is all about what will last over winter in your area....

Frost dates by zipcode would be divine, at least for U.S. gardeners.

Desirable pH levels by species

Most common pests by plant species

Organic solutions for those pests, if available

Gardening is like the #2 hobby (behind fishing, I believe) nationwide.
There is a very real market for SW like this, esp. if enough stuff is built
into it to attract the non-square-footers as well.
