Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hi< I hope this goes to everyone--I sent a couple that didn't show up--guess
I sent them to individual posters not being an adept computer user or list
responder. Anyhoo! I am an older person, a grandmother an ex-social worker
who's garden saved my sanity when I was trying to help others save
theirs(since well you know what a garden can do for us). 25 or more years
ago I started to garden off the top of my head. Later (maybe 4or5 years) I
subscribed to OG and began to learn a lot. I believe I was exposed to Mel's
ideas somewhat then without knowing Mel. I at least go the idea about raised
beds and french intensive gardening. The first year we just dug and tilled
our spot and then made un matrixed mounds in rectangles with walkways( our
neighbors laughed in front of and behind our backs; saying who do you have
buried out there?) We joked that they were lowered raised beds. But when
the garden grew they stopped laughing and started asking questions. We were
very blessed in our ignorance and fertil soil (even thoough it was clay,
clay. clay.) and the knowledge to add organic material from OG and we had a
very productive garden for years which I thought mainly happened on it's own
from God. Sorry to go on and on but, here I go: I was injured in a car
accident and had to stop working, laid around a lot., watched cable--then
satilite and discovered Mel---loved it, learned not enough---he didn't come
back on after the season break and I greatly missed him. Imagine how
thrilled I was to find you guys. I have already learned a lot and I hope I
will be able to contribute something of value to someone from my many years
of dirty fingernails(can't stand the gloves even though I know it's the smart
thinn to do (as Desi Aarnez used to say). Finally my response to SW : I hope
it woould include when to start the seeds for transplanting into the garden
and some greenhouse and coldframe culture(including how to build, heat,
ventilate and watering systems). OG years ago had an article on using large
metal drums filled with water (on the north wall of the greenhouse) so it
acted as a passive solar heater(heating up during the day and releasing the
heat during the night). Thing like that and information on what devices(cold
frames, cloches, greenhouses and combinations of these) can be used to move
your plants into a warmer zone and exactly what to do. Hope I'm not asking
too much, but the more months of the year I can garden the happier I am--how
about you all Does anyone know of a seed company that carries celeriac?
please let me know I've been looking for years. Although I haven't many seed
catelogues--I usually buy locally. Hope You still can see after reading
this long post. Bonnie Christensen Mt. zone 5(maybe)
