I'll take a guess. This is only a guess. My guess is the stuff at the
nursery has been aged and yours is fresh. My second guess is maybe they're
using a certain type of tree or bark and you're using what you can get. My
third guess...: )

I don't know about that. I've used sawdust on paths before and have never
had a problem. I read (don't know from experience) that fresh saw dust/wood
chips rob nitrogen from the plants. And, you should fertilize with something
like blood meal, chicken manure before you mulch or add grass clippings to
your mulch. Like I said, I have no experience with this. I'm just sharing
something I read and remembered. : )
