Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hello Gardeners,
As all of you plant your gardens this season,
please consider planting an extra square (4' X 4') or row
for the hungry and donating the harvest from it
to a local food bank or soup kitchen. Plant
a Row for the Hungry, a national project sponsored
and nurtured by Garden Writers Assoc. of America (of
which I'm a member) encourages gardeners to help those
who are hungry. Most food bank clients are working
poor and senior citizens on small fixed incomes. A
working single mother has a difficult time stretching a
$6 an hour paycheck to house, clothe and feed growing children
--especially if the kids are teenagers. Senior citizens often
go without food in order to pay for costly medicines.
I've participated in Plant a Row since 1995, when it was
created. From my SQ FT garden, I often harvest extra squash,
tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers and peppers--all are taken to the
local food bank. To find out where to contribute your extras,
you can go to our website at: http://www.gwaa.org or email us at
PAR@gwaa.org If any of you are in Central Illinois,
email me directly, because I'm the project director for
the 18 counties in the center of the state.
