Re: 1?=space, 2?=water

Katherine:
If you have extra space, you might consider planting a variety of annual seeds, including nasturtiums or other edible flowers for salads. If you don't want the plants to be too tall, consider some hybrid big blossomed sunflowers...they are very attractive cut plants in the late summer and early fall. Cosmos, zinnas, marigolds, and other flowers are very lovely.

As to your walkways, consider laying down layers of straw, bark, or other available dead plant material that will absorb moisture.

Do you have a kitchen compost bin? If I were in your situation, I would consider it. Don't put any protein, including milk products, and the smell will be minimal. Use these materials to put in your garden. If you collect eggshells, set them outside in a container with good drainage to rinse off the protein...then crush and put around plants...helps in many ways.

Rubbermaid makes a very cool pull along garden cart that turns into a seat, you might want to consider this device to help you carry water. You can always beg, borrow, or buy a little red wagon;-)

If you collect rain water, cover the containers with a fine gauge netting to discourage mosquito egg laying, larva hatching.

Have other ideas,
Sheryl
