According to the "Ortho Problem Solver" earwigs are not good bugs. Although they eat insects, their main source of food are plants, ripe fruit and decaying organtic matter. It goes on to say they are nocturnal and hide during the day in dark damp place. >From "The Bug Book", it is easy to trap earwigs. A trap made with dry moss at the top of a flower pot, inverted on a stake in the garden will make an attractive hiding spot for them. But you must be sure to empty the trap every morning.
