Hi Bob, Sounds to me like you have blossom end rot. Causes of this are Extreme fluctuations in soil moisture (also a cause of cracks), Rapid plant growth early in the season follow ed by extended dry weather, Smothered roots, Excessive soil salt or cultivating to clost to the plant. I would suggest that you try to maintain a consistant water supply ie, approx 1" a week. As for the wilting leaves possible causes Fusarium wilt or verticllium wilt. Both of which have no cure. The only safe guard againt them is to plant resistant varietys. I would suggest for now that you get on a regular watering schedule rather than watering when the leaves look wilted. It is not good to let plants dry out to the point of wilting.
