Olin,
I'll say it again--I have spaced my corn 12 inches apart in rows 12 inches
apart, year after year. In other words--one plant per square. I get the
best yields this way, because each stalk produces two or more ears. I've
tried other spacing--wider and closer, and this spacing works the best.
Varieties I've planted intensively are Funk G-90 and IlliSweet Hybrid.
Speaking of corn, here in Illinois, there is corn as far as you can
see--everywhere. I'm not planting it, but I'm stopping at various farms and
asking to buy a few ears of field corn (I love it better than sweet corn),
and the people are kindly allowing me to pick as much as I want for free.
