Hi, Jonathan, my husband used a 50/50 mixture of linseed oil and mineral
spirits to coat our cedar boards (several coats). It worked great, and
they're still looking nice after five months or so. Hubby also coated our
wood trellises with the mixture, and they are holding up well, too.
I'm sure that after several years they won't be looking brand new, but
that's to be expected with wood outdoors, no matter what you put on it. I
do think hubby has plans to put another coat on ours occasionally.
