Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
I've set up a 3 bed system, well, actually 4, but 2 are small, for growing
my strawberries. I planted 9 strawberry plants in the 1st raised bed last
spring (4'x16') and let them grow, picking the buds off as they came
out. That bed is now covered with plants and has runners overflowing into the
paths between the beds. I'll allow these plants to produce strawberries next
June, pull the plants in July and plant beans and perhaps peas in the fall.
The 2nd bed, actually, 2 4'x6' beds, were planted with corn and beans last
summer followed by peas in the fall. I'll clip some of the runners from the
1st strawberry bed and plant them in these beds next spring. These will
produce the strawberries the following year.
The 3rd bed (4'x12') will be planted with corn and beans this summer,
followed by peas. Runners from the 2nd bed will be planted here the spring
after next etc etc
Compost is added to these beds every year and a layer of shredded leaves
covers them in the fall.
This way I have a system which will keep the the soil rich, and the
strawberry plants producing many large strawberries from year to year.
